Events
Vibrant and thriving, HOPe has regular events during the year. Our annual golf outing is a great Spring day -- for golfers and non-golfers alike. Rosie O'Grady's hosts an annual benefit for us each fall. High jinx and revelry accompany the wren night festivities every December. And, irish set dancers join us for ceilis every month in the Kerry Building in Yonkers.
Keep reading to see the good times that have been had. And watch this space to learn more about upcoming events.

Rosie O'Grady's (November 13, 2008)
The 2008 annual benefit focused on opening a dialogue about AIDS in Africa. We were joined by distinguished speaker, Fr. Owen Lambert, who has devoted the past 34 years to helping the poorest of the poor in Ethiopia and Tanzania.

Wren Night (December 26, 2008)
There are different legends about the origin of the Hunting Wren Boys. The most common one is that St. Stephen, who was stoned to death, was routed from his hiding place, by a twittering wren. The poor wren had to endure similar stoning treatment and is carried on top of a holly tree by Wren Boys, with camouflaged faces, travelling from house tohouse each year on St. Stephen's Day, December 26th. In recent years, some charities in Ireland have used the Wren Boys tradition to raise money for their work. In 2003 the HOPe Wren Boys - HOPe members and friends - started in New York. We visit bars and restaurants, dressed in strange attire, singing and dancing, in Queens, Manhattan, the Bronx and Yonkers.
