Dominican Republic
According to the World Food Program, over 40 percent of the population live in poverty and over 10 percent live in extreme poverty. HOPe has helped fund several projects throughout the country to address this issue.
In 2024, HOPe supported BLUE Missions, a non-profit organization that has given access to clean water and sanitation to families in the Dominican Republic. During the water project, BLUE missions worked with local leaders, families and volunteers to construct a gravity-driven or pump-driven aqueduct and connect each home with a faucet.
From 2014-2016, HOPe funded the renovation and extension of a Dominican Republic primary school located in the village of Cofembar, just outside Puerto Plata.
Project: Safe Water and Sanitation for families in “Majagual” and “Las Corcobas”, which are part of the municipality of Arroyo al Medio in the Maria Trinidad Sanchez province. With a population of around 400 people, made up of 133 families, these communities’ local groundwater is threatened by the lack of facilities for the safe disposal of human and livestock waste. HOPe supported this project which successfully complied to provide these families with direct access to safe water and also improved the sanitation system.
In 2013, HOPe members visited the village of Cabia, located on the border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic and discovered a children’s orphanage in severe disrepair. The facilities had limited housing, food and water for the 75 children it served. After fundraising efforts, HOPe donors helped the community with:
construction of housing (sleeping quarters and bathrooms)
construction of classrooms, procurement of desks, chairs and blackboards
school uniforms and educational programs
medical supplies
