Joseph a. MCCarthy
1944 - 2024
A lifelong resident of the Bronx, Joe was born into a large and loving Irish Catholic family, the second eldest of nine children. He entered Dunwoodie Seminary in Yonkers but soon discovered that his true calling was to work with the students and families within the New York City Department of Education. For over 40 years, he proudly served in many different roles including: Classroom Teacher; School Administrator and Director of Special Education.
In his later years, Joe developed many passions and interests including being a Board Member of HOPe Charity, where he diligently served as Head of the Appropriations Committee for many years.
He was extremely active within HOPe and went on several mission trips to Honduras and Ethiopia. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Woodlawn Civilian Patrol; served as President of the Woodlawn Taxpayers Association; volunteered as a member of the Auxiliary Coast Guard and was a lector at St. Barnabas Church.
HOPe Charity thanks Joe for his many years of service and dedication.
