in memory of thomas keveaney

Thomas Francis Keaveney, a man of profound faith and unwavering devotion to his family and community, entered into eternal rest on April 19, 2026, at the age of 86 surrounded by his family. Thomas was one of the founding members of HOPe and will be missed by the entire community.

Born in Dublin, Ireland, on March 7, 1940, to the late Thomas and Margaret Keaveney, Tom’s journey took him from the Emerald Isle to London before he eventually settled in New York in 1965. It was there at a Saturday night dance, that he met the love of his life, Catherine Gilhooley. The two shared 56 years of marriage, raising their 4 children with love in Yonkers, NY.

A lifelong learner, Tom earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Fordham University. He was a dedicated employee of Con Edison for over 30 years, retiring in 1999 as Vice President of Planning. In retirement, he remained an active leader among the Westchester Con Ed retirees, curated their monthly newsletter and served on the Board.

A cornerstone of St. Barnabas Church, Tom served his parish in nearly every capacity: parish trustee, lector, CCD teacher and the "behind-the-scenes" money manager for Wednesday night bingo. His passion for service extended to the soccer field where he was the head coach of the Dunwoodie Youth Association (DYA) Racers travelling soccer team, Past President of DYA, organizer of the annual Columbus Day Weekend soccer tournament at Cook Field and respected soccer referee throughout Westchester County. Tom also served as an early member of the Helping Other People (HOPe) charity. In later years, Tom took up the game of golf, found great joy and camaraderie on the links with his fellow Irish foursome in New York and with his family in Vermont. Tom’s vibrant spirit was best seen when he was Ceili dancing, listening to Irish music in the car or at home on WFUV, sailing on Irish cruises or spending winters in sunny Florida.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine; his children, Tommie, Brian (Kathy), Mary Catherine Byrnes (Steve), and Sheila Foote (Patrick); sister, Sheila Hogan and sister-in-law Maura Keaveney. He was the adored “Da” of Briana, Megan, Andrew, Molly, Maeve, Tommy and Deirdre, and great-grandfather to Tiegan and Hudson. He was predeceased by his siblings, Malachy, Pearl Lynch, Dan and brother-in-law Don Hogan. He also leaves behind extended family in New York, Ireland, and England.

He faced a courageous 26-year battle with Parkinson’s disease with the same grace and strength that defined his life. In honor of Parkinson’s Awareness Month and Tom’s long and brave fight, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
